Since I was 8 years of age, I have loved handling snakes, especially in public, primarily because I wanted to teach kids of all ages, (and some adults) that they are pretty harmless and amazing creatures. I wanted to help them get over their fear from the individuals in their life that taught them this misplaced terror. Owning assets is the same to me, I want to show people that what I have learned is “if you put your money to work correctly, there is not much to be alarmed about”. Markets are a bit like an animal, get to understand them and they will behave (mostly) to your desire. If you shed your former apprehension, they can be harmless, if you handle them correctly.
Stocks, bonds, and other assets are also amazing creatures!
I began writing about my experience with business, finance and marketing because I wanted to have an outlet for what makes up a significant portion of my daily life, and thoughts. I have had many trainings and mentoring (paid job) responsibilities in my past career, now at 65 years of age I took that fork in the road once again.
I was naive about writing professionally and had no true writing expectations. I was in high school the last time I was writing, for the school newspaper and yearbook. I was already locked into a life of studying the markets and commodities, so it seemed like an obvious extension to add Substack.
The newsletter today is a “free or paid option for the subscriber” because a publication like this needs lots of scale in order to write a book or enable a payment only option. The bit of money earned from the newsletter so far (under $1500), is not the reason for my obsessing over my publication, although we could use it. The reality is that I just love learning, teaching, and helping others, period. To help someone get a little closer to understanding how to navigate the yellow brick road, leading to their financial freedom, is my drug of choice.
Some of you have pledged your support by indicating that you would subscribe if I enabled “payments only”, which I appreciate.
Creating, writing and editing my posts takes many hours each week, as I’m sure you can appreciate. The blog is a part-time gig of my choosing, creating financial help battling against mass media that is creating confusion from their often-ridiculous content for clicks. The world is full of money mysteries; we don’t need big media outlets making it any less clear.
There are various options that I can consider, such as making the newsletter more topical, actionable, and somewhat less personal – enough about me!
I could also put more time into my podcast and/or video interview component.
In sharing my passion for Stock Talk, along with my minor victories and struggles, I hope you found something you could relate to and maybe some inspiration of your own.
I still care for snakes and other reptilians, but they are not as exciting as a well-played asset!
Thank you again for the privilege of allowing me to send you these posts.
Substack has surprised me, in the best way.
There’s grace here, and patience, and people who still believe in thoughtful conversation. To everyone who’s read, commented, or simply lingered with a sentence: thank you. You’ve reminded me why I started writing in the first place.
Keep me sending me your great ideas to write about and the new people to teach out.
Regards
